I explore the ephemeral. My materials are common substances with ties to alchemy and the body, such as salt, wax, water and milk. In my installations I examine the elusive lived experience within impermanence, memory and time.
In a world where architecture, archives and museums, science and technology all make an imperative out of permanence, I use my art to investigate the meaning created by common residue and things that fade. What are the possibilities in a virtual culture for first hand, visceral experiences of metaphor? How can language be “un-made” into a field of embodied knowledge? What are the ways still images can be made to share the temporal field of the body? These concerns have occupied the installations, objects and images of my practice over the last 25 years.
